Christina Aguilera will make her screen debut for Screen Gems in “Burlesque,” a contemporary musical that Steven Antin will direct. Antin wrote a script that was revised by “Erin Brockovich” scribe Susannah Grant.
Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club that appears to be right out of Bob Fosse’s “Cabaret.”
Sounds kinda “Showgirls,” doesn’t it?
Although it’s described as a musical, there’s no mention of a songwriting credit, which makes me think (and hope) they’re avoiding the minefield that is a movie filled with original songs and going the safer and more entertaining route: using reinterpreted covers (à la “Moulin Rouge”).
Aguilera is set to release her fourth studio album in “Summer 2009” (some put it in September). A fourth album and a soundtrack filled with Christina? SCORE.
