The day is “an annual project launched by United Poultry Concerns in 2005 to celebrate chickens throughout the world and protest the bleakness of their lives in farming operations.”
And since you may have forgotten, United Poultry Concerns is a Virgina-based non-profit “dedicated to the compassionate and respectful treatment of chickens, turkeys, ducks and other domestic fowl.”
The UPC is urging individuals to “please do an ACTION for chickens on or around May 4.” Um, one: “Do an ACTION?” What the fuck kind of sentence is that?! And no, ACTION is not an acronym, they just decided to capitalize it. And two: “On or around May 4?” Jesus, could you lower your standards any more? Demand that they act on International Respect For Chickens Day and only International Respect For Chickens Day!
But I digress.
The UPC also maintains a sanctuary where rescued birds are allowed to live free. Here is a picture of one such bird, Mr. Frizzle. I love him.
So does this post make up for this post?
PS: May 4 is also Star Wars Day. As in, “May the Fourth be with you.” Get it? Har, har, har?! Who knew May 4 was such a big day!
