I wouldn’t be that surprised if Gingrich ran on a third party ticket in 2012: his Republican followers (and there are a lot of them) will follow him where ever he goes, non-Republicans would probably prefer that he didn’t have the Republican label, and it’s unlikely that the Republicans will find someone to nominate (Jindal? Palin?) that is even one tenth of the intellectual heavyweight Gingrich is.
Definitely keep your eye on this one; Gingrich will announce any plans to run in “early 2011.”
